We’re now back in the office after a refreshing summer break. The past year, like 2020, was a tumultuous year for all kiwis and 2022 is likely to continue this trend. How will Omicron affect us when it finally breaches our defenses? Only time will tell.

As a large commercial print company with customers throughout Aotearoa, the 2021 Auckland lockdown threw up some challenges for Excel Digital. However, we had carefully planned for such an event and our team stepped up amazingly. We were able to change production and distribution processes to help our customers continue to operate in a different world.

Ongoing programme of investing in technology

While many other companies pursued a conservative approach in 2021 due to the uncertainties over Covid-19, we remained very active, making significant investments in state-of-the-art equipment.

Fuji Xerox Iridesse Production Press

In early 2021 we commissioned a Fuji Xerox Iridesse Production Press. The Iridesse can print up to six colours in a single pass with precision. It can also embellish with decorative metallic, clear, white and flouro inks. We can now print using shimmering metallics, bright white, or neon colours. This enables a whole new range of special effects and vibrant colours. The acquisition of the Iridesse has given our customers’ graphic designers scope to let their imaginations run riot.

Canon varioPRINT IX Production press

In December 2021 we took delivery of a Canon varioPRINT IX production press. The IX press is nothing short of revolutionary. Without going into too much detail, the IX enables us to print more jobs faster, for longer hours, with a higher print-quality. To top it off, the IX has a lower environmental impact. It truly is a game-changing piece of equipment.

CEO, Mark O’Grady explains, “We are always looking to ensure we offer the very best service to our valued customers and innovation is central to that. The new equipment will assist Excel Digital to continue to lead the way.”

As well as making significant technological investments, we were also extremely proud to become a certified Toitū carbon-zero company in 2021.

“There’s no sign of Excel digital slowing down in 2022” comments Mark, “we are planning some exciting new projects for the year ahead – watch this space.”

As with all new parents, we are always keen to show off the new additions to the family. So, please get in touch if you would like a tour of our facilities.
